Como agua para chocolate [Like Water for Chocolate]

The second film of Beyond Babel Festival 2025 is Como agua para chocolate by Mexican director Alfonso Arau.

This film will be introduced by Dr. Carmen Herrero (Professor in Hispanic Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University and co-director of the Film in Language Teaching Association).

Synopsis: The passionate Tita is in love with Pedro, but her controlling mother forbids her from marrying him. When Pedro instead marries her sister, Tita throws herself into her cooking – and discovers she can transfer her emotions through the food she prepares.
