The Monster of Fortune
The Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with Fiacine, presents Spain's Oscar-nominated short film, El Monstruo de la Fortuna (The Monster of Fortune), by Manuel Castillo Huber. In his second fiction short film, in the wake of Ahí dentro (2014), German-Chilean actor and director Manuel Castillo Huber brings to the screen a dialogue of power and ambition against the backdrop of an issue that, although set in the 17th century, is perfectly relevant in the 21st century: censorship. Synopsis: Madrid, 1635. Queen Isabel de Borbón invites the writer Calderón de la Barca to her chambers to entrust him with a very dangerous mission. A secret relationship, a woman who is intellectual and liberal for her time, a writer trying to climb the social ladder, a queen seeking to leave her legacy in time, and the sexual tension between them.
