Something has changed: A Quixotic journey into local blues. Film screening and musical performance.
On Friday, September 26, to close Suntracks,
the documentary Something Has Changed: A
Quixotic Journey Through the Spanish Blues (Sergio "Chapete" Bonacci Lapalma, 2025) will be screened at the
Instituto Cervantes. The film explores Pappo Napolitano's influence on the
American blues scene, his entry into B.B. King's “Blues Mafia,” and the legacy
of Spanish blues that he helped forge. The film was born out of the bond between its
director and Melvyn “Deacon” Jones, John Lee Hooker's legendary organist and a
key figure in American blues, who asked him to return to Argentina to reunite
with his “soul brother”, Pappo. Following his death during filming, the
documentary became a tribute to his legacy and the shared history of blues in
Spanish. Praised by Tiempo Argentino
at BAFICI as “one of the great revelations of the festival,” the film includes
testimonials from Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses), Carmine Appice, and Larry
McCray. Presented by Pamela Stovell Hill, producer of the film, and Lance A.
Williams, president of The Stowell Foundation After the screening, to close the night with
live music and a relaxed atmosphere, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m., the Argentine-Los
Angeles R&R group Pasión Redonda
will perform their own music and a closing jam session. Free events
