SiM-Language Centre LSE, Instituto Cervantes-London, Cañada Blanch Centre-LSE and University of Roehampton present In a foreign land, a documentary by Spain's highest-profile female director, Icíar Bollaín, about the life of young Spanish immigrants in Edinburgh, Scotland, who had to leave Spain due to rising unemployment at home caused by the economic recession.

Gloria, a 32-year-old native of Almeria (Spain), is a teacher without a posting who, for the past two years, has been working as a shop assistant in an Edinburgh store. Gloria, together with a group that she created, is launching an initiative which, under the motto "Neither lost nor silenced", aims to offer visibility and a voice to express the frustrations and concerns of the 20,000-strong community of Spaniards living in the Scottish capital.

Presented in 2014 at the San Sebastian Film Festival, In a Foreign Land was the first feature-length documentary film by Icíar Bollaín.

After the film, there will be a Q & A session in Spanish on the issues raised by the film with Paco de la Coba Tena, journalist and founder of El Ibérico ; with Paula Romero, a member of Marea Granate (a transnational organisation formed by emigrants)and, with Lucía García, Assistant Professor in Organisational Social Psychology at the London School of Economics.
