Tribute to Spanish exile in the tomb of Manuel Chaves Nogales

Tribute to Spanish exile in the tomb of Manuel Chaves Nogales Instituto Cervantes

Forgotten for decades, the Sevillian writer and journalist Manuel Chaves Nogales (1897-1944) is today considered one of the most lucid and honest voices of Spanish literature in the twentieth century. His seminal work is the independence and testimonial value of book, A sangre and fire, about the Spanish Civil War. Killed in hard circumstances during his exile in London, Chaves Nogales was buried in a grave without a gravestone in the North Sheen Cemetery. On the 75th anniversary of his death, the planned tribute includes the reading of the prologue of A sangre y fuego in Spanish and English by the actors Jorge de Juan and Candela Gómez, a text written for the occasion by the writer Andrés Trapiello, as well as some words from the writer's grandson, Antony Jones. The tribute, marked by sobriety and respect, is open to all readers of Chaves Nogales who want to join and participate in it.
