guitarrísimo: Carles Trepat Granados/Llobet,a Centennial Voyage
Midnight on the 24th November 1915, and the sound of guitars and mandolins emanates from the port of Barcelona...guitarist Miguel Llobet is leaving for New York with his close friend Enrique Granados, and a group of his students have arrived to bid them farewell. Granados would never again return to Spain, drowning in the English Channel following a stopover in the UK after his boat was torpedoed by a German U-boat.
A native of Lleida, Catalonia, like Granados, the pre-eminent guitarist Carles Trepat marks the Granados centenary with a programme based on his 2015 album Granados-Llobet, 100 anys d'un viatge, exploring the relationship between the two composers, including Llobet's transcriptions of Granados' piano pieces. He performs on an 1892 Antonio Torres instrument with gut and silk strings.
After the concert a free Spanish wine will be served.
