Blood Wedding

Blood Wedding Emiliano Piedra/Egeda

The importance of Federico García Lorca's work in 20th-century Spanish culture is inescapable and persistent, despite the silence he suffered during Franco's regime. With this film (to be followed by Carmen and El amor brujo), Carlos Saura begins a trilogy that will redefine the dramatic tradition of Spanish culture. This cinematographic proposal comes hand in hand with musical cinema and unites two outstanding artists of Spanish dance: Antonio Gades and Cristina Hoyos.

Synopsis: Lorca's drama fuses with the beauty of an exquisite flamenco ballet to tell the sad story of a bride who, on her wedding day, runs away with her lover - an old fiancé with whom she is still in love - and becomes the object of persecution of her future husband and his family.
