Cracks & Scars

Cracks & Scars Westmister Libraries & Archives

Westminster Libraries in collaboration with the Mexican and Chilean Embassies and the Cervantes Institute have the pleasure to invite you to a bilingual poetry event with LAS JUANAS, (The Hispano-American Women Writers on Memory Group). The collective is made up of six women artists: Mariajo Alba-Sánchez (Spain), Maria Eugenia Bravo Calderara (Chile), Mabel Encinas-Sánchez (Mexico), Isabel Ros-López (Spain), Consuelo Rivera-Fuentes (Chile), Denisse Vargas Bolaños(Bolivia). The Event will be introduced by her Excellency, the Ambassador of Mexico in U.K, Josefa González-Blanco. LAS JUANAS started writing and doing workshops together in 2010; they say "we write because we need to". They express their commitment to create change and encourage solidarity and social inclusion through their writing and artistic performances. According to them and, as Gabriel Celaya wrote "poetry is a weapon charged with future" which allows them to combat the great pandemic of our times. Grietas/Cracks and Scars aims to raise awareness of human rights, indigenous women and climate change; migration, displacement and exile. This is a unique event: LAS JUANAS will show their poetic, musical and narrative work through an audio-visual montage created by them. Also, as part of Grietas/Cracks and Scars , Victoria Library will be holding an exhibiting of LAS JUANAS graphic work from the 28th of October to the 11th of November (for the exhibition just drop in).
