RFN'68: 'Seven days in January by Juan Antonio Bardem at Hyde Park Picture House
The Instituto Cervantes in Leeds is glad to collaborate alongside Film Fringe and the Hyde Park Picture House in the screening of 'Seven days in January' ('Siete días de enero', J. A. Bardem, 1979) as part of Radical Film Network’s 1968 Festival, a programme of screenings and discussions which celebrate and reflect on the radical uprisings and revolutionary fervour of the events of 1968.
Oppositional filmmaker Juan Antonio Bardem’s political thriller is set during the transition period in Spain following the end of Franco's dictatorship, and chronicles the events that came to be known as the Massacre of Atocha. It is a key cultural work of the country’s transition to democracy.
The film will be introduced by Laura Ager, teacher of Cultural Theories at the University of Leeds and film programmer at the Hyde Park Picture House and the Film Fringe collective, which she founded. After the film, Laura will open a question time to reflect on what is shown in the film.
Screening in 35mm, in conjunction with Scotland’s CinemaAttic group.
