Autumn 2019 Reading Club: Modelos de mujer, by Almudena Grandes
In this edition of the reading club we will read the book of short stories Modelos de mujer (Female models), by the Spanish writer Almudena Grandes, first published in 1996. The seven short stories offer different perspectives on femininity, its conflicts and tensions.
Through them, topics such as motherhood, body, canons of beauty and madness, among others, will be worked on. Likewise, we will reflect on the position of women and women in the literary field, the recent demands for equality in Spain and the importance of fiction when imagining their own identities.
The sessions will be in Spanish and in each class will work linguistic aspects that facilitate the understanding of the stories.
The course consists of four sessions of two hours each session and additional material will be provided to students in class. It is essential for the proper functioning of the course that the readings indicated before each session are carried out.
