Historian Michael B. Barry will tell us the fascinating story of the six centuries of Rome’s presence in the Iberian Peninsula. From the start of the Roman era in Iberia in 218 BC when legionaries landed just south of the Pyrenees to the end of Hispania in the fifth century AD, all through the several centuries needed to conquer Hispania, the times of rich agricultural produce and mineral wealth of the peninsula, and the general prosperity, great cities and the building of roads that linked them.

Michael B. Barry will talk about the impressive Roman remains to be seen all over Spain and Portugal, including the great aqueduct in Segovia and the theatre in Mérida.

Michael B. Barry studied in Trinity College and lives in Dublin. He has written many books including a trilogy of books on the Irish Revolution, and recently co-authored A Nation is Born, Ireland in Colour 1923-38 (Gill Books).
