The Peace and Friendship Treaty between Argentina and Chile, signed in 1984, is a milestone in the history of both nations, as it peacefully resolved a long-standing border dispute and laid the foundation for lasting diplomatic and cultural cooperation. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of this important agreement, the Embassy of Argentina in Ireland and the Embassy of Chile in Ireland are hosting a special event featuring a screening of the film Mi mejor enemigo. This film, which explores themes of camaraderie and conflict between Argentine and Chilean soldiers during a border standoff, is a poignant reminder of the importance of peaceful resolutions and the shared history between the two nations. The event not only celebrates the treaty but also reinforces the values of diplomacy, understanding, and friendship between Argentina and Chile, sending a powerful message of unity and cooperation to the international community.

Synopsis: December 1978. Chile and Argentina are just days away from beginning an armed conflict on the southern border. In Patagonia, a Chilean patrol accidentally breaks its compass and gets lost in the vastness of the pampa. They dig their trenches somewhere, not knowing whether they are in Chile or Argentina. A long wait begins, which will be interrupted by an Argentine patrol setting up in front of them. Both patrols now await the war, but the tense waiting gives way to a friendship that forms between human beings who are enemies, yet, confused by the loneliness of the pampa, walk a fragile line between duty and desire, thus telling a profound human story.
