Book presentation «Profesor de humanidades» by León Leiva Gallardo

The novel «Profesor de humanidades» , by León Leiva Gallardo, portrays, through specular characters confined to a reformatory, the human condition in permanent decay, despite the fictions of love, freedom, and society constantly stalking these divided subjects that we all are. Written with a clean, precise, and immersive style, this novel is a true milestone in contemporary Central American narrative; but its specific weight—as a literary proposal and critical reasoning—is of a universal nature, insofar as it delves into that tragic and natural vein that is the fragility, the fleetingness, and the lightness of being.

León Leiva Gallardo (Amapala, Honduras, 1962) is a narrator and poet, and author of the novels "Guadalajara de noche" (Guadalajara by Night) (Tusquets Editores, 2006), "La casa del cementerio" (The Cemetery House) (Tusquets Editores, 2008), and "Profesor de humanidades" (Humanities Professor) (Nautilus Ediciones, 2023). "El pordiosero y el dios" (The Beggar and the God) (MediaIsla, 2017) gathers a selection of his short narrative. His poetic works include: "Palabras al acecho en la coedición Desarraigos" (Words on the Prowl in the co-edition Uprootings) (Vocesueltas, 2008), "Breviario" (Breviary) (Ediciones Estampa, 2015), an illustrated work that is part of the American Library of the Estampa Gallery in Madrid, "Tríptico: Tres lustros de poesía" (Triptych: Three Lustrums of Poetry) (MediaIsla Editores, 2015), and most recently, "La última estación" (The Last Station) (Editorial Efímera-UNAH, 2023).
