Poesía en Abril 2026. Opening Night Carlos Barberena

DePaul University, in vibrant collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago, El BeiSmAn, and 18th Street Casa de la Cultura, proudly presents the XVIII edition of Poesía en Abril, the Midwest’s premier Spanish-language poetry festival.

This year’s theme, Resistencias [Resistances], celebrates the transformative power of poetry to connect communities, bridge cultures, and amplify voices that inspire reflection, hope, and social imagination.

Over four days, the festival will bring together an extraordinary lineup of poets from Latin America, Spain, and Chicago’s dynamic Latinx communities, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience the richness, diversity, and vitality of contemporary Spanish-language poetry.

Opening night highlights include:

  • Official inauguration of Poesía en Abril 2026
  • Announcement of the VII Juana Goergen Poetry Award winner, recognizing outstanding poetic achievement
  • Live poetry readings, dynamic literary dialogues, and immersive community workshops
  • Music by Sol Andino
Join us for an evening celebrating language, art, and culture as Poesía en Abril illuminates Chicago with voices that resonate across continents, generations, and communities.
