About the Book: The Op-Ed Novel tells the story of how a group of Spanish novelists changed contemporary literature through their opinion columns, unearthing new ways in which literature and politics—and fiction and nonfiction—blend together.
About the Author: Bécquer Seguín is an assistant professor of Iberian studies at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches the literary, cultural, and political history of modern Spain. He is a regular contributor to The Nation, where he has been reporting on Spain since 2015, and has written for Slate, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and Public Books, where he co-edits the literature in translation and sports sections.
About the Interlocutor: Geraldo Cadava is a contributing writer at The New Yorker, based in Chicago and focussing on Latino politics, history, and culture. He is the author of The Hispanic Republican and Standing on Common Ground, and is currently writing a history of Latinos over the past five hundred years. Cadava is also a co-editor-in-chief of Public Books, for which he hosts the Writing Latinos podcast. He is a professor of history and Latina and Latino studies at Northwestern University.
