Women & Science desconocido

This event held on the occasion of International Women's Day aims to offer a space to highlight women dedicated to scientific and technological knowledge. The role of women in science and technology will be discussed with an exceptional panel of professionals. After an introductory talk about the relevant role of women in science, in an interactive panel, our 4 panelists will share their experiences during their scientific and professional career in Spain and the US. Followed by a Networking reception. In collaboration with ECUSA (Españoles científicos en EE.UU.) Teresa Nieves Chinchilla, PhD Dr. Teresa Nieves-Chinchilla develops her research at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). She received her Theoretical Physics degree from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and her PhD by the Alcalá University. With several scientific papers published, contributions to conferences and international meetings, her research is motivated to understand the nature of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and their interactions with the solar wind, planets and the Earth. Additionally, she was a founded member of ECUSA (Spanish Scientist in the US) and she was the president of the association in 2016. Natalia Nieto, Pharm.D, M.Sc., Ph.D Dr. Natalia Nieto is Professor in the Department of Pathology of the University of Illinois at Chicago. She received her PharmD, M.Sc and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the University of Granada. She did her postdoctoral research in the Albert Einstein college of Medicine and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York where she become Associate Professor. With more than 50 scientific papers, book Chapters and international meeting contributions, her research career have been driven by elucidating the mechanisms of alcohol-induced liver injury and liver fibrosis. Roser Matamala, PhD Dr. Roser Matamala develops her research at Argonne and she is a Fellow at the Northwestern-Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering and at the UChicago Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering. She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from University of Barcelona and she did her postdoctoral research at Duke University. Her research studies the carbon, water, and energy cycles at the ecosystem level and the changes occurring due to human factors, such as land-use and global climate changes, contributing to this field with over 50 articles in scientific journals, book chapters and scientific reports. Marta Guerrero, M.Eng Marta Guerrero arrived to the US thanks to Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and it's Master in Industrial Engineering. For the past year, she has been working at Gas Technology Institute, a research company focused in the natural gas industry. Previously, she worked in a start-up, Cavendish Energy, and was part of a team that was looking to produce hydrogen in a safe and economically sound way. Marta holds a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering from Universal Carlos III de Madrid and a Masters in Material Science from Illinois Institute of Technology.
