The Chicago International Hispanic Playwriting Competition was founded in 2014 by Aguijón Theater Company with the support and collaboration of the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago. Since its fifth edition, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago has also joined as a partner. The competition aims to promote the work of contemporary Hispanic playwrights.
2024 Judging Panel:
Neher Jacqueline Briceño, Sandra Dominique, Conchi León, Luz Elena Muñoz, and Patricia Suárez, who have worked over the last six months to select the winners and are meeting the authors and the origins of the winning plays for the first time.
About Aguijón Theater Company
Founded in 2014 by Rosario Vargas, Co-Artistic Director of Aguijón Theater Company of Chicago, the International Playwriting Contest aims to:
- Promote Spanish-language theater across the United States
- Support contemporary stage writing
- Foster dialogue among authors and creators in their pursuit of genuine expression and exploration of new trends in theater
The competition is held in partnership with the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago and the National Museum of Mexican Art, expanding its cultural reach and impact.
