The poet and his poetry: Ángel González
Ángel González (1925 Oviedo, Spain – 2008 Madrid, Spain). He was a recognized Spanish poet who was part of the Generation of 50’, and was able to go beyond the limits of the Spanish territory with his poetry. In different occasions, González was invited to give lectures about poetry in other countries, such as Mexico, Venezuela or Chile. Furthermore, he was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy, holding the seat labeled with the letter “P”.In his work can be found a strong contradiction, possibly because the topics that he touches are deep and intimate at the same time. But, in addition, he knew how to tackle social issues in a colloquial language and with a lot of irony. He paid particular attention to the Spanish Civil War, one of the events that marked him at a tender age. Some of his more recognized works are “Hopeless with conviction”, “Treatise on Urbanism” and “Nothing serious”.
