This beautiful tragedy, where the Andalusian countryside and the life of the farmhouses are seen from a pictorial aesthetic and with unusual character development in the Spanish cinema of that time, was the second film that Margarita Alexandre - actress, director and active producer both in Spain as in revolutionary Cuba and Italy during the "years of lead" - co-directed with Rafael Torrecilla.

Synopsis: María, known by everyone by the nickname of «La gata» (the female cat), is a beautiful young woman, daughter of the overseer of an Andalusian cortijo. She is wooed by several men of the village, among them by the young Joselillo. But «La gata» is only attracted to Juan, a handsome and cocky worker who dreams of becoming a bullfighter.
