Más que baile
Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque is collaborating with the 38th edition of the Festival Flamenco Albuquerque, one of the most important gatherings dedicated to the genre in the world and the most renowned in the United States. The festival will be held June 20-28 and offers a unique opportunity in New Mexico to witness world-class performances: more than 100 artists, 19 performances and more than 40 workshops and activities for the whole family.
Our center supports the performance of dancer Ana Morales (National Dance Award 2022 in Spain). Together with her company, the artist will premiere in New Mexico the show ‘Más que baile’, a collection of unpublished pieces that travel from minimalism and abstraction to corporealism and totality. Some are broken pieces, others whole. There is room for destructure and structure, the neutral concept of flamenco in its logic or flamenco as flamenco in its variety, in its mixture, in its mosaic.
About Ana Morales:
Ana Morales (Barcelona, 1982), dancer and bailaora, is a leading figure in the new generation revolutionizing contemporary flamenco. Described by Didier Deschamps, director of the Théâtre Chaillot in Paris, as embodying “intensity, elegance, and sensuality,” Morales captivates with her mastery of movement and stage presence. Her choreographic work blends flamenco and contemporary dance, marked by a search for authenticity and emotional resonance.
She has premiered seven acclaimed productions and has collaborated with renowned artists and institutions such as Esperanza Fernández, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Rafaela Carrasco, Javier Latorre, and Andrés Marín. She has also appeared as a soloist in Carlos Saura’s Flamenco Hoy and Iberia and performed with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía in celebrated productions like 'Imágenes'.
