Experiments in Cinema: Beyond Me, by Margarita María Milagros Margarita María Milagros

Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque is participating in the 2022 edition of the Experiments in Cinema film festival, which will be held from May 9 to 23 virtually through the website www.experimentsincinema.org. The center is collaborating with the performance of Colombian-born multimedia artist Margarita María Milagros. ‘Beyond Me’, a special program performed and curated by Margarita María Milagros.

The two pieces make a reconstruction of the past lived by a woman. Each one exposes the passage of time through her dreams, fears, fragilities, and unspoken words. These pieces describe the longing to be somewhere else. They're a reflection of real displacement, caused by material facts (violence, poverty, desire for freedom, desire to discover) and symbolic experiences (vital states, feelings, crises, and values).

‘Daydreaming’ (photo performance). Duration 4 minutes. Margarita María Milagros Margarita María Milagros is a Colombian artist, born in Bogotá. Her work consists of body art and performance projects in unconventional spaces, focused on the feminine universe. The sources of her work come from dance, artistic makeup and scenography. Her first contact with art began in dance, more specifically, with classical ballet. Parallel to dance, she studied Interior Design in Bogota, Colombia; Scenography and Costume and Stage Makeup in São Paulo, Brazil. Her work on and off stage has led her to explore, as a question in her work, the feminine universe in its tensions between private and public life, between the intimacy of the body and its external presentation. These tensions, the exploration of the passage of time and sexuality within the daily and extra-daily life of women are the motifs that guide her work.
