Fenómenos naturales
Winner of the Best First Feature award at the Guadalajara International Film Festival’s Iberoamerican Feature Competition in 2024, Díaz Sosa’s film tells the story of Vilma, a young pregnant nurse who lives in a small town near Santa Clara, Cuba in the late 80s, who dreams of entering the national skeet shooting competition. But pregnant women are barred from competing. Then, one day, like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, a strange tornado whisks her to the island hosting the tournament. Like Dorothy, Vilma will find that there is, indeed, no place like home, even if that home happens to be a ramshackle farm in a country that is rapidly deteriorating.
